This comfy trend is more wearable than it seems.
One of my favorite recent purchases is my wide-leg jumpsuit. It’s comfy, easy, and chic. With a single piece, you’ve instantly got a high-fashion outfit. It’s also a sneaky way to get in on the culottes/wide-leg pants trend without ever having to worry about what kind of tops work with voluminous bottoms.
Still, when it comes to picking shoes and accessories, the wide-leg jumpsuit may seem like a tricky piece to style. And where can you wear a wide-leg jumpsuit, anyway? The answer is everywhere, as these babies can be dressed up or down and paired with a lot more items than you would expect.
Read on for tons of one-piece inspiration, as well as three cute and cheap outfit ideas (every item in this post is under $50!).
1. Cute and Casual
A light denim jumpsuit is perfect for those not-too-hot summer days (bonus points for a cutout). Cute flats or sneaks make a perfect pairing.
When the hem hits at around your mid-calf, you just want to steer clear of shoes that cut you off or weigh down the look too much. It’s a fine line, and will require you to play around a bit; sleek ankle strap sandals or even chunky flats or sneakers can be surprisingly cute. The only shoes I’d stay away from are clunky wedges, as they’d throw off the proportions.
A solid jumpsuit is the perfect backdrop for a fabulous statement necklace. Just as you don’t want to throw off the proportions of the look with major shoes, a roomy tote or large structured bag would look out of place. Instead, keep playing up the trendy, summer vibe with an oversize clutch with oh-so-in tassel details.
2. Night Out
A jersey jumpsuit is such a comfy choice for a night out, and the flare leg is a cozy and classy alternative to a skinny silhouette.
With a full-length jumpsuit, my shoe advice is the exact opposite of what it was for the cropped number, above. Pumps or daintier sandals will be lost under the flare, and this shape really calls out for a heel. Sturdy wedges are just what you need.
A practical-yet-sleek crossbody bag and jewelry that plays up the jumpsuit’s boho vibe are great ways to finish the look, but the accessorizing possibilities are endless. This jumpsuit would look super cool cinched with a thick black belt or accented with matching cuffs on each wrist, a la Wonder Woman. And a black pleather jacket would be perfect if it’s chilly.
3. Chill and Beachy
This summery jumpsuit is clearly cute — it would even make a great cover-up — but the slightly awkward length makes finishing the look a challenge. Finding shoes that work with this jumpsuit will be harder than with the previous two, but I think delicate, neutral sandals are your best bet.
Good news is, once you’ve solved the shoe problem you can have lots of fun styling this piece. I love it with some sort of denim topper, embroidered or otherwise. And pretty jewelry, be it layered necklaces, major hoop earrings, or some glittery bangles dress up the jumpsuit enough for brunch or a daytime date.
