Summer lovin’ and summer reading!

Summer is finally here! One of the things I’m most excited about is having time to read things for fun. It’s literally been so long since I’ve gotten to read a fiction book and I am PUMPED.

There are plenty of other things that I can’t wait to do now that it’s summer, and in that spirit, I’ve picked out a few books to read based on classic summer activities! Read on to add some things to your summer bucket list (and summer reading list):

If you’re already planning a hiking or camping expedition…read Wild!

Cheryl Strayed’s tale of self-discovery is perfect for anyone that loves the great outdoors. Wild is the true story of Strayed’s journey across the Pacific Crest Trail following the death of her mother and her divorce.

While Strayed’s approach to the PCT, one of the most demanding hikes in the country, is not one to be emulated, her story of grit and determination still renders this a great read. Plus, Reese Witherspoon plays her in the movie adaptation, so it’s gotta be good!

If you can’t wait to hit up your fave amusement park…read Jurassic Park OR Joyland!

Read the book that inspired the city! The novel Jurassic Park is chock full of details that the movie adaptations have left out, making it a brand new experience for even the most obsessive fans of the series.

Dinosaurs not really your thing? Check out Joyland, from the mind of Stephen King, for a creepy trip to an amusement park I hope you never visit. Fans of mystery and crime novels are in for a treat from the master of horror himself.

If you’re ready to jet off to a foreign country…read 13 Little Blue Envelopes!

Ginny’s Aunt Peg sends her the first of thirteen little blue envelopes that inform her that her aunt has died and left behind a scavenger hunt of sorts for her to follow all across Europe. What follows is a cross-country trip that changes Ginny’s life forever.

A little cheesier and more light-hearted than some of my other suggestions, 13 Little Blue Envelopes is one of my favorite books and is the perfect airplane read for anyone heading out on an international trip this summer.

If you’re dying to see the next summer blockbuster…read Crazy Rich Asians!

Honestly, words cannot describe how psyched I am to see this movie this summer. While it’s slated to be one of the later films of the summer, Crazy Rich Asians is sure to be one of the funniest flicks of the season.

The story follows the exploits of Rachel Chu after she agrees to spend a summer in Singapore with her boyfriend and his family. Little does she know, her boyfriend’s parents are ludicrously wealthy and what follows are some “Real Housewives”-esque escapades that could put your own family drama to shame.

What do you think?
