Kohl’s currently has a bunch of great pieces, perfect for that back-to-school look.

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Kohl’s. All opinions are 100% mine.

Back to school time has arrived and it’s more than just a return back to the ol’ college grind; it can be a fresh, fun start for your wardrobe, too. Every school year, I love to switch up my style, but finding flattering clothes to suit my curvy, 5’2 frame remains a consistent struggle.

Thanks to Kohl’s.com, however, I received the chance to scope out their brands (including Mudd, Candies’s, SO, etc.) and was able to put together some perfect back-to-school outfits.

This is the first of three Back-to-School-with-Kohl’s posts so expect many diverse outfits coming your way. Today, we’re going to focus on not-so-basic basics. Read on to learn more!

Back-to-College Basics

Despite all the new fashion trends popping up, wearing basic, flexible pieces will never go out of style.

Since most of us college students are on a tight budget, a lot of us create new outfits out of these basics, but there are some basics that are spotted on campus more than others. I have compiled a cute back-to-school outfit that showcases some of them.

Simply Bloomin’ On

First outfit. It’s simple and floral so it’s “Simply Bloomin’ On”!

This outfit has the fashion pieces that always seem to trend on college campuses.

Now, Let’s Break it Down…

Top

I’m not really a floral print type of gal, but I fell in love with the elegant design of this Pink Republic floral tank top.

It has that perfect balance of “prettiest-girl-at-the-summer-party” and “quick-brunch-with-the-girls” so it would be perfect for a variety of daily occasions. If worn with dressier pieces such as pencil skirts, it could transform into a great night-out outfit as well.

The material is thin and breezy, falling right on the flattering parts of your body. The material also allows you to tuck it into your pants without fear of adding extra bulk to your look.

A cute floral top is definitely a must-have in the college closet for its flexibility and cute design.

Bottoms

I’ll just say it: I’m a leggings and yoga pants girl. It’s partially because they’re super comfy, but moreso because as a 5’2 curvy girl, finding the right pair of jeans is like discovering the Holy Grail.

Do you know how difficult it is to find jeans that hug my curves, but that aren’t super tight and uncomfortable? Jeans that also fit my height in this world of lucky giants?

Well, at Kohl’s it wasn’t difficult. Not difficult at all, since this amazing pair of Denizen low-rise-jeggings from Levi’s exists. In my experience, jeggings tend to be uncomfortably tight and unflattering. These, however? They’re the most comfortable jeans I’ve ever worn.

The Denizen jeggings by Levi’s are soft to the touch and extremely stretchy. Their exclusive Love Stretch design really lifts your curves in the right places. Low-rise jeans usually drive me crazy, but these are nice and snug at the waist.

They’re my new favorite pants, and I’m so excited to finally incorporate jeans back into my outfits. Will these be the ones to cure me of my leggings addiction?

Outerwear

Cardigans are a staple item in many college girls’ closets, and I found the perfect one for back to school.

Mudd’s open, ribbed cardigan first caught my eye because of its interesting almost-beige, almost-white coloring. A good staple cardigan should be neutral, allowing you to wear it with everything. The vertical, ribbed lines of the cardigan also give it some style and a flattering, slimming effect.

The length of the cardigan is actually perfect for my height, falling right at the middle of my thighs. I can wear it with shorts for that cute, back-from-the-beach look or rock it with long pants for a cozy fall vibe.

The material is thin, perfect for these last summer nights and those cool fall mornings. You can easily throw this over anything in your closet. A cardigan of this shape and color is an important basic for all college women.

Shoes

I’ve worn all types of shoes to school, from heels to sandals, but my heart lies with sneakers. They’re perfect for running to class (sometimes literally) as well as kicking it with your friends on weekend adventures.

I used to shy away from sneakers since I’m pretty short (do you guys see a pattern here?), but I’ve learned it’s all about finding the right shape of shoe for your body.

“Wait, what?” you may be asking, “Shoe shape?” It’s easy; you just have to try on different shoe shapes such as big, bulky, slim, etc. to see what fits your body best. I personally like a slim, small shoe to contrast my curves. It pulls the focus that a big shoe might get upwards since bulk on my feet also seems to accentuate the bulk on my upper body. #shoetricks

These white Converse All-Stars from Kohl’s are a great example of my favorite shoe shape and many college students seem to love them as well. Literally all my friends and housemates have them and I now understand why! They look fantastic with every outfit and are a total college girl staple.
