Make the most of your trip to the Happiest Place on Earth!

Here at CF, we’re pretty much all crazy Disney fans, and I’m no exception. Having grown up visiting Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris, finally visiting the original Disneyland park last year was a tear-jerking experience for me.

Needless to say, making the most of my trip to Disneyland was a definite must! I did tons of research on the best things to do at Disneyland and now I’m passing my tips on to my fellow Disneyland newbies.

Here are my top five can’t-miss things you HAVE to do at Disneyland!

1. Indiana Jones Adventure

What would a vacation to a theme park be without rides? Temple of the Forbidden Eye captures the spirit of an Indiana Jones movie, even if you’re just in a huge, souped-up Jeep the whole time. Unlike Star Tours, where you just sit in a box and get shaken up a little, Forbidden Eye jerks you through an appropriately ancient looking and dangerous feeling temple to pilfer the most precious religious objects of a long lost civilization. My advice? FASTPASS, FASTPASS, FASTPASS AND QUICK!

Sadly, this ride is often under maintenance, but if it’s running while you’re at Disneyland, make sure you give it a shot. It’s the first of a few rides on this list that don’t exist in Orlando.

2. Animation Academy

Have you ever wondered how Disney animations are made? The Animation Academy gives you step-by-step instructions on how to illustrate some of your favorite Disney characters during a hands-on presentation with a Disney artist.

This is absolutely one of my must do’s every time I visit the park… especially when it’s hot, as it’s indoors in A/C!

3. Churros

Cozy Cone Motel

After all that walking and magic making, you gotta be hungry, right? Well, there’s nothing that beats a good ol’ churro and naturally Disney does them the best!

My fave snacking spot is the Cozy Cone Motel over in Disney California Adventure. Not only are there churros, but chili “cone” queso, flavored popcorn, pretzel bites , soft-serve “route” beer floats…yum, yum and yum.

4. Walk in Walt’s Disneyland Footsteps Tour

If you’re a complete and utter Disney enthusiast and history geek, the Walk in Walt’s Disneyland Footsteps Tour is a must! The tour takes you through the park, learning about everything that went into creating Disneyland, as well as the story of the life of Walt Disney himself.

The tour includes admission to two classic attractions without waiting in line, a lunch on Main Street USA, a collectable pin (Any Pin Traders out there?) and an exclusive look at Walt’s private apartments or the Dream Suite. It isn’t included in your park ticket, but it’s worth it for true Disney geeks.

5. World of Color

A trip to Disney is not complete without a nighttime spectacular and World of Color is that and more! It’s breathtakingly magical!

If you want anything approaching a decent view of World of Color, you’ll need a special FASTPASS, the securing of which can be an annoying adventure in and of itself.

One option for obtaining FASTPASS tickets is the World of Color meal packages that are offered for lunch and dinner at some of the restaurants located in Disney California Adventure. After your meal, you’ll receive special Fastpasses for each member of your party, permitting entry into a Preferred Viewing area reserved for dining package patrons, which is dead center along the waterline. But be careful – you may get wet!

BONUS: Secret Fireworks Spot

One of the best places to watch the fireworks at Disneyland, that not many people know about, is by the planters around King Arthur’s Carrousel. Actually, the planter makes a pretty comfortable seat for you to relax and enjoy. This is especially great if the park is super busy, and trust me – it can get super crowed on Main Street.

Plus, as an added bonus, Tinkerbell passes right above you when she’s flying – what’s more magical than that!?!
